Which way does snaffle bit curve?
I'm putting a new snaffle bit on my bridle and never really realized there's a slight curve in the bit. Which way does it go? Does the curve go to the front of the mouth or the back?
Actually, it can curve either way; but It should go to the back of the mouth.
If you bend the bit the way it would sit in the horses mouth and it makes a U then it's probably the right curve for your horse.
If you do that and it makes a V shape, it will be much harsher on the mouth but I have seen it used on extremely headstrong horses to stop them fighting the bit.
Not only do I not condone this at all, but it is improper use of the bit and equipment; it's actually cruelty.
