what type of winter blanket to get? I want him to grow out his winter coat?
my horse needs a little extra warmth
so he needs a blanket this winter
at what temp do you need to blanket a horse?
30 degress?
20 degrees?
below 0??
they only have a run in no barn as he is a pasture horse
i don't want him to be TOO hot so his winter fur doesn't grow out
so what type of blanket should i buy? it HAS to be waterproof
oh and what type of denier is good for winter?
I also like to allow my horse to get a winter coat (not a Super Thick one). I usually don't start to blanket my horse until it starts to be below 30 degrees regularly every night. I then put a lightweight winter blanket on him.
When it gets below zero I will pull out the heavyweight one.
The denier has nothing to do with how warm the blanket is. It has to do with the strength of the material. The higher the denier, the stronger the blanket. I usually have to get a least a 1200 denier because my guy likes to play a lot in the pasture and a lower denier gets shredded pretty fast.
For warmth you want to look at the weight of the blanket (light, medium and heavy) and the amount and type of fill in the blanket.
