Pattern memorization techniques?

What are some good techniques to memorize the patterns as for riding, show, and western riding lessons? I really want to do them, but I'm horrible at memorizing.

I often read about the pattern and the image in my mind as I read. Then I look away from it and try to replay in my mind as I was really on my horse (I think it helps if I am well acquainted with the sand and can figure out exactly or if I'm looking in the sand thinking to get some visual reminders). As I do, I'll look back to see me if necessary. I'll make more and more until you can do without looking, then repeat several times before the class. Keep a copy of the model in your pocket or tucked into the waistband pants so you can look at it right before going in. Even if you are bad to memorize, you will get better as you gain more experience with employers. Most of them - especially in open shows, which are less complicated - basically have the same maneuvers, so you only have to remember what to do in but I find that visualization helps me - if only memorize "lead-Lope right, turn left, four steps back, then I forget, but whether or not the picture of my loping horse and "feel" the progress, and then stopping image and go through the actions in my mind, then I remember. To mount the west always used one of several different patterns (using the AQHA rule book as a guide). There are about eight different, but most would use or pattern of 1 or 2 pattern, and never use one that is not in that book - so if you can get the book and look at them now, you'll never have to memorize the pattern each time (only seen it to refresh the memory of which is which).
