What bit do I use to show WP?

My mare is in a copper snaffle right now. For show season next year I cannot have her in a snaffle. What is the best transition bit to go into WP from using a snaffle, that will still be ok to use in shows but not too hard in her mouth?

Please include pics if you can, it helps a lot to see what I should look for. Also, any tips on transitioning from a snaffle to something different would be super helpful!

IF your horse has gone thru a proper bitting up process and has acquired basic skills with the snaffle bit you may transition to the Argentine Snaffle, a bit popular with many trainers, Les Vogt is one, an example of one of his Argentine bit designs.........

After spending some time in this bit and continuing or beginning neck reining training, and your horse is comfortable in this bit, you may then proceed to the next level, a simple curb bit or a curb bit with a frog mouthpiece which many young horses love for it's "fat" bars.
...many horses really like the feel of this bit and find it less threatening. The bit in the attached photo is a "loose jawed" shanked bit which means there's some "give" and forewarning to the horse when you pick up a rein. Consequently your communication through your reins is much better. I prefer it to a straight up(solid) shank.

I've had great success using the above bits in the bitting process. I didn't use any short cuts in educating young horses in the bitting up process....consequently they all have educated mouths for either WP or Working Cow Horse. The same basics are placed on them as they're gaining an education in their given specialties.................

For Senior Pleasure Classes..."those horses (AQHA), six years old and older, may be shown only in a curb bit, half breed or spade bit". From the "AQHA Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations".

For Junior Pleasure Classes....Horses five years old and younger may be shown in either a bit, hackamore(bosal) or snaffle bit.....From the "AQHA Official Handbook of Rules and Regulations".

It is in your favor to move your mare on from the snaffle bit to the curb bit using the appropriate transitioning processes. Many people fail to move their horses on and short change their horse's education in the process.
